Unlike any other father-son duo, Ranbir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor shared a very unique relationship. While Rishi always came across as a strict person when it came to his children, but they were everything for him. Similarly, Ranbir too was attached to his father in ways he didn’t even realise until he was diagnosed with cancer.
In an old video that has surfaced on the internet now, we can see how close Ranbir was to his father when he was battling cancer. It was at an award show when Ranbir spoke about his father’s love and passion for acting and the rough patch in his life.
Last year, at Zee Cine Awards, Ranbir won the Best Actor Award for his performance in ‘Sanju’ and with his acceptance speech, he left his girlfriend Alia Bhatt moist-eyed. In his speech, Ranbir dedicating the award to his parents said, “I would like to dedicate this award to 2 very special people in my life, starting with my father. My father is going through a little bit of a rough patch in his life. I’ve often heard when you come into some kind of crossroads in life you can really tell who you are as a person and what you are. Very often, when I meet him or whenever I talk to him he only talks about movies.”
Ranbir also revealed how his shared his insecurities with him. “He speaks to me about his insecurity, that when he gets back, will he get to work in the movies, will people offer him films, will he be able to act in movies and that kind of inspiration and that kind of passion and that kind of madness is what brings all of this to perspective. Secondly, my mother for the kind of love, care & support she’s shown towards a difficult man at a difficult time & that is the most beautiful thing in life it’s just love so here’s to love, the passion, I will see you at the movies.”
Ranbir’s speech received a huge round of applauds and his girlfriend Alia Bhatt was seen wiping her tears. The couple will be seen sharing the screen space for the first time in Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’.
67-year-old Rishi after battling cancer for two years breathed his last in Mumbai on April 30.
