Liger starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday released in theatres on August 25. It opened to poor reviews and also poor opening. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the sports drama also stars Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy and has Mike Tyson in a cameo role. Given the hype and the promotions, Liger failed to live up to the expectations. Amidst the negative reviews and low box-office numbers, an old tweet of the Arjun Reddy actor has gone viral where he claimed that the movie will earn more than Rs 200 crore.
In 2021, there were reports that the film received a offer Rs 200 crore for a direct digital release. Responding to the news, Vijay tweeted, “Too little. I’ll do more in the theaters.”

It’s too early to predict but given the Day 1 collection of Liger and the reviews it has got, it seems difficult that the movie will mint more than Rs 200 crore in theatres in its lifetime collections. Also, there is a big competitor coming up next month. Liger will face a tough competition with Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt movie Brahmastra that is releasing on September 9. So, in that scenario, do you think Liger will be able to perform well?
Talking about the Day 1 collection of Liger, according to Bollywood Hungama, the film’s domestic collection stands at Rs 19 crore. The film has collected Rs 15 crore in the Telugu states but the Hindi version has opened at Rs 1.75 crore only. The worldwide gross collection of the pan-India film is Rs 33.12 crore on its opening day as shared by Dharma Productions.
An excerpt of Liger review by Bollywood Bubble read: “Vijay Deverakonda looks absolutely dashing with his long locks and chiselled body. He shines in all the fighting scenes as this character was tailor-made for him. Lazy writing, weak story and poor execution don’t make Liger a delightful watch. You’re definitely in for a treat but if you’re like me who is looking for a good story, powered by good performance, it might disappoint you”.
