Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin seems to be okay with the sizzling on-screen chemistry actor Emraan Hashmi shares with Nargis Fakhri, who plays Sangeeta Bijlani in the upcoming biopic on the controversial cricketer.
Hashmi has essayed the role of the former Indian skipper in the biographical sports film ‘Azhar’.
Prachi Desai plays Azharuddin’s first wife, who felt betrayed on being passed over for his second wife Bijlani, an actress-model, played by Nargis.
The trailer shows sizzling chemistry between Emraan and Nargis.
When asked about it, Azharuddin says, “Emraan shares sizzling chemistry with everybody. There is nothing new about it…Ask me something new. With Emraan Hashmi you expect that (kissing scene). If that (kissing scene) not there then people get disappointed.”
The biopic, directed by Tony D’Souza, has elements of love, romance, betrayal, pride and patriotism meshed together.
The 53-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, who burst onto the international scene in mid-1980’s when he hit three consecutive centuries in as many Tests, was one of the most successful but controversial captains to lead Team India.
“I speak to everyone before taking a decision. I never take decisions alone as it is difficult. Like in 1993 Hero Cup, in one of the matches, we as a team, decided that Sachin Tendulkar should bowl,” Azharuddin said, when asked if he had spoken to Bijlani before giving consent for the biopic.
Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the film also stars Lara Dutta as a lawyer and Gautam Gulati as Ravi Shastri, a former captain and Azharuddin’s contemporary.
‘Azhar’ is scheduled to release on May 13.
