The widely appreciated movie ‘Newton’ has clinched many awards at various film festivals. The movie which released today, is being applauded by the critics for its strong content and fabulous performances. Now, the makers are extremely delighted and happy as ‘Newton’ has become India’s official entry to the Oscars, this year. Lead actor Rajkummar Rao shared this exciting news by tweeting, “Very happy to share this news that #NEWTON is India’s official entry to the #OSCARS this year. Congratulations team.”

The story revolves around a rookie government clerk named Newton Kumar, who is sent on election duty to a naxal-controlled town in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhatisgarh, India. He tries his level best to conduct free and fair voting in spite of being faced with the apathy of security forces and the fear of guerrilla attacks by communist rebels. The trailer of the movie had already impressed one and all with a glimpse of what was to come. It kickstarts with the character of Newton meeting a young girl (for marriage) and enquiring about her hobbies. The girl reveals that she loves watching movies and ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’ is her favourite one. After discovering her age, he quickly says that she is under-age. This depicts that Newton is a man with strong principles. Then, we are taken to his training sessions where Sanjay Mishra’s character explains to the class that they will call off the polling booth elections and call for new elections. It takes us into what happens when problems occur in a polling booth.
Talking about the achievements of the movie, it met with a warm reception at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. It also bagged the CICAE Award for Best Film in the Forum Section.
