On Thursday, the Indian film industry suffered a huge loss with the death of Pamela Chopra. She was the wife of late filmmaker Yash Chopra. Pamela ji was 74 at the time of her passing. She is now survived by sons Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra. Aditya is married to actress Rani Mukerji and they have a daughter Adira.
Pamela ji had a huge contribution in shaping up the work of Yash Raj Films. From writing the story of the iconic film Kabhi Kabhie, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhee, to bringing Punjabi music influence to Indian cinema. Pamela ji has silently shaped the Indian music scene with her work and influence.
Yash Raj Films pays tribute to late Pamela Chopra
Taking the work Pamela ji has done into account, Yash Raj Films shared an emotional video collating some of the playback singing she had done. While she had been very selective about her choices, Pamela ji gave some amazing tracks to Hindi films. Be it Surkh Jode Ki Yeh Jagmahat from Kabhi Kabhie or Khud Se Jo Vada Kiya Tha from Silsila, her voice was just iconic.

In the video shared by YRF, there is a clip from one of Pamela ji’s interview. She shared how she got the accidental chance to sing Ghar Aaja Pardesi in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. She said, “I was actually dubbing for Lata (Mangeshkar) ji. I would do a dub and then later Lata ji would come and sing it. But to my greatest pleasure and happiness I can’t tell you, Jatin-Lalit told me that ‘no, you have sung it so beautifully, we don’t want to dub it.’ I can’t tell you how I felt at that time.”
The video also shows glimpses from Ghar Aaja Pardesi, Meri Banno Ki Aayegi Baarat from Aaina, Sohni Mahiwal from Darr and Main Sasural Nahi Jaungi from Chandni. The loss of Pamela ji has left a huge void in the industry which can never be filled. Her immense contribution to Indian cinema will always stay iconic.
