Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh changed the music scene in Bollywood. His foot-tapping numbers became an instant party hits and ever since then, he has been ruling the charts. However, there came a phase in his life when he totally disappeared from the scene. And it was only recently when the rapper shared how he overcame the dark phase of his life i.e his battle with mental illness and alcoholism.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Honey Singh revealed how Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan supported him while he has at his lowest.
Speaking about how his life was affected, Honey recalling the dark phase of his life told the entertainment portal, “It was a terrible phase for me. A lot was going on with my mental well being. I had become an alcoholic as well. I used to not sleep so the disease started growing slowly inside me. It took me 3-4 months to accept that I’m actually not well. It was a dark phase and I would request everyone to not hide it.”
He also stated that when an artistes share every other aspect of their lives with the audience then they should not refrain from sharing their low points as well.

Interestingly it was during that phase when Honey had produced ‘Dheere Dheere’ song featuring Hrithik Roshan which turned out to be a huge success. He even revealed that when he was unwell he didn’t leave his house for more than a year. “I didn’t leave my house for a year-and-a-half. People are frustrated because of the lockdown, but I’ve already survived one!” the musician-rapper said.
Back in 2016, in an interview with Times of India, Honey had revealed that he was suffering from bipolar disorder. Now sharing how his family and a few people from film industry stood by him all these while, Honey told Pinkvilla, “The entire family and friends took care of me. In fact, there are many people from the industry who supported me. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone helped me and since Deepika has also been through a similar phase, so she shared a Delhi based doctor’s number with my family for me.”
We are glad that Honey shared his story which will definitely help other people to come out and speak openly about the importance of mental health.
