Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani completes 10 years; YRF teases the next chapter in the female-led cop franchise- Watch

Yash Raj Films’ Mardaani is the biggest solo female-led franchise in Hindi cinema. As the Rani Mukerji starrer celebrates its 10th anniversary, the production house took to social media and teased the next chapter of the film. Release in 2014, Mardaani was directed by Pradeep Sarkar and saw Rani Mukerji essay the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy, a no-non-sense policewoman. Also starring Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Saanand Verma, the film revolved around a human trafficking ring. As per reports, the film earned a nett Rs 40 crore at the box office – double the amount invested in the film

Released in 2019, Mardaani 2 was written and directed by Gopi Puthran. It saw Rani reprise her role as police officer Shivani and Vishal Jethwa as the film’s antagonist. The plot follows Shivani’s attempts to catch a 21-year-old rapist and murderer, Shiv ‘Sunny’ Prasad Yadav. The film was well-received and earned Rs 67.12 crore (gross) at the worldwide box office.
