Now this is really shocking! We have heard a lot about casting couch, wage disparity and all the other ill practices that are prevalent in Bollywood, but never have we heard about a director ill treating his juniors.
At an event held by the makers of upcoming film ‘Poorna’, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar made this shocking revelation. A Conclave comprising of Rahul Bose as the host along with panelist comprising of wonder women like Barkha Dutt, Sakshi Malik, Zoya Akhtar and Poorna Malavath (youngest girl to climb Mt Everest) was held to speak on the topic of women empowerment. It was here that Zoya made this revelation.
While conversing with the panelist she said that it is easy to be a director than an assistant director. This opinion has been formed due to a few instances that she has witnessed. She said that she has witnessed male directors hitting their assistants and making them kneel down as a punishment.
She also confessed that she did not like the movies that were made earlier and she had decided not to be a director then. She stated, “I chose not to work in Hindi film industry back then as I didn’t like the movies back then.”
It’s shocking, but true, if it’s coming from a lady who has been an internal part of this glamorous industry. (Also Read:Â Zoya Akhtar fell in love at first sight with Ranveer Singh)
