Actress Zoya Hussain, who gained fame with projects such as Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz and the Disney+ Hotstar series Grahan, recently got candid about her career. While talking about her journey in the entertainment industry, the actress also got candid about being ‘dropped’ from projects because of having fewer followers on Instagram.

Zoya Hussain on losing projects due to low Instagram following

During a recent interview with Indian Express, Zoya Hussain got candid about her Bollywood journey and how she deals with rejections owing to reasons other than not being a perfect fit for the character. When asked if her Instagram ever caused issues when it came to her casting, the actress replied in a somewhat positive manner. Zoya Hussain said, “I don’t know if it is Instagram specifically, but I have been dropped from projects in the past for either having less followers or not being well known. That is definitely something that I have faced.”

For the unversed, in the past actors have spoken about how casting depends on the amount of fan-following the celebrity has on social media. A low following reduces ones chances of landing a project.

Talking about how she handles such situations where an actor’s talent is not the reason they get cast in a project, Zoya says, “That is the industry. Craft has very little to do with most things, unfortunately. It is not that you don’t get noticed, it just takes a lot of time. It is very difficult to keep yourself motivated then.” She continued, “If someone is not casting you because you have very little (Instagram) followers, what can you do about it? Nothing. You might (say), ‘OK, I will work on my Instagram game instead of trying to be a better actor.’ It is disheartening. I don’t understand it. You want your film to be good or…. I just don’t understand these trends. I hope it changes.”
