The movie Avatar: The Way of Water has recorded fantastic collections on the opening day at the box office. The James Cameron directorial was released in theatres on December 16, Friday. And, the Hollywood movie has managed to break records in all circuits. However, Avatar: The Way Of Water could not beat the opening day collections of Avengers: Endgame at the box office.
A Box Office India report said that the James Cameron directorial made a total collection of 40 crore nett on the first day. The movie got a phenomenal response on the opening day, considering the post-pandemic era. It had an excellent first day in terms of box office collections.
In terms of collections, Avatar The Way Of Water made its way through the opening day records of films Spiderman – No Way Home, Avengers Infinity Way and Dr Strange – In The Multiverse Of Madness, respectively.

According to the report, “Avatar – The Way Of Water scored a fantastic day first day with collection of 40 crore nett apprx driven by record breaking collections in all circuits of South India. The final collections are still to come but the records look there comfortably beating Avengers Endgame in all the southern circuits.”
As per the report further, the James Cameron directorial is expected to show growth on Saturday across the metros. However, the report also stated that the second day collections of the movie will prove if Avatar will have a long run.
Directed by James Cameron, the film features an ensemble cast of Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.
