Box-office Report: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Sanju’ mints 117 crore in its first weekend

Every time a Rajkumar Hirani film releases, the expectation of the audience go sky high. Living up to the expectations of the viewers, Hirani’s latest film ‘Sanju’ starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, has taken the box-office by storm.

The film opened up to some great reviews with everyone appreciating Ranbir’s terrific acting in it. According to a report in Box Office India, ‘Sanju’ with its first-day collection of around 34.50 crore, has already broken the record of the previous films that released this year. And now, with its first-weekend collection of around 117 crore, the film smoothly made its entry in the 100 crore club.

‘Sanju’ has even crossed the 200 crore mark worldwide in its first weekend thereby becoming the third film to achieve this feat after ‘Sultan’ and ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.With its terrific first-weekend collection ‘Sanju’ has even left behind ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ which had minted up to 115 crore in its first weekend.

‘Sanju’ has already broken the first-day collection record of Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’, Ranveer Singh’s ‘Padmaavat’ and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Baaghi 2’ and has become the highest opener of 2018 so far.

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ is a biographical film based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt, one of the most controversial stars of Bollywood. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Talking about his reaction on the film, Sanjay Dutt said, “Ranbir is extraordinary in the film. I think the film is fantastic. Rajkumar Hirani, Vicky Kaushal and everybody has done a fantastic job in it. Whatever has been the truth that has been portrayed in the film.”
