Released on November 12, 1993, ‘Baazigar’ starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol where the former played an anti-hero. It was Shilpa Shetty’s debut movie. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the action thriller became a blockbuster hit of the 90s. Its music, dialogues, plot, direction, performances – everything was just unmatchable. It is considered as one of the cult movies of that time and one of Shah Rukh’s best performances ever.
The movie has completed 25 years today, and director duo Abbas-Mustan made a revelation about the movie. In an interaction with PTI, they said that the climax scene was shot with two endings. In the climax scene, we see Ajay (Shah Rukh Khan) dying in his mother’s arms. Rakhee Gulzar, who played SRK’s mother didn’t like the plot as she didn’t want a sad ending. Mustan Burmawalla said, “Rakhee ji said yes but wanted the ending to be changed as she felt audience should not be let down. A lot of distributors said the hero should not die in the end and instead the police should come and arrest him. So we had shot both the endings.”
He also explained why they settled for the ending. “We felt the ending where the police comes and takes SRK will not work as the emotional graph of the character would not be conveyed correctly,” he said.

Mustan said that people liked the movie even though Shah Rukh played a negative character. “People still like the film and it is a big compliment to the entire team. The important thing is the maker should be convinced with his own vision as that will reflect on screen. We had a hero playing a negative role. Though it led to the hit pairing of Shah Rukh and Kajol, it was not a romantic film. But it all worked well,” he said.
Well, we were not aware of the trivia that the ‘Baazigar’s climax had two endings. Thanks to Abbas-Mustan for sharing this.
