Salim Khan’s young days as an actor and his first marriage
Salim Khan started out as an actor at the age of 23. Few years later, he got married to a Hindu woman, Sushila Charak in the year 1964. Sushila converted to Islam post marriage and changed her name to Salma. Salim had dated her for five years before settling into matrimony.
The other woman in his life
While being married to Salma, Salim started seeing the famous cabaret dancer Helen. He had worked with her in films like 'Teesri Manzil' and 'Sarhadi Lootera' before marriage. He confessed that his relationship with Helen was a long one and they tied the knot in the year 1980.
Turmoil in Salim Khan’s family life post his second marriage
After his second marriage, his kids and first wife did not approve of Helen at all. But eventually, they started living with the realisation of a second wife and a second mother. Salim Khan had said in an interview with a daily, “As kids they had their hostility. But they reacted the way their mother did. As I told you very honestly, it wasn't as if Salma accepted the relationship happily straightaway and thanked me for it or said, you deserve an Oscar for it. So at that time, there was hostility from the children."
Helen received acceptance from Salim Khan’s family
Salim Khan's wife and sons finally accepted Helen and welcomed her with open arms. Said Salimn Khan, “They've all realised that Helen is a wonderful person, the children have realised that she's as good as their mother, They feel, daddy likes her, our mother likes her, we also like her, she's family. Now Salman will give his life for Helen."
Salma Khan and Helen’s strong bonding
Salim Khan's two wives, Salma and Helen may not have got along well in the beginning, but over the course of time, the two ladies developed a fondness for each other. During one of Salman Khan's Being Human shows, Helen was immensely touched by the show and even kissed Salma Khan on her forehead. And at the end of the show, both Helen and Salma walked on the ramp together on the insistence of Salman Khan. Helen had said, "It was spontaneous. I didn't know what came to my mind at that moment. But it was a very proud moment for the family and just to share that moment of togetherness, I kissed Salma on her forehead." This was in the year 2009.
Salman Khan is proud to have two mothers
In the year 2012 on the occasion of Mother's Day, Salman Khan had expressed his happiness for having two wonderful mothers in his life. He had said, “See, I have two mothers and that way I am doubly blessed." Also, Salim Khan spoke about how his son Salman Khan makes it a point to buy two identical gifts for both his mothers. He had said, "On Mother's Day, or any time he buys anything for Salma, Salman will always buy two of the same thing, always one for Helen too."
Entire ‘Khan’daan together finally
Finally, the entire 'Khan'daan was together with no rivalries. In the year 2014, Salman Khan celebrated his mother Salma Khan's birthday at sister Arpita Khan's new flat and it had the entire 'Khan'daan including Helen. It was one big happy family bonding together.
