Akshay Kumar

Recently, at the press conference of ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’, Akshay Kumar revealed that the script of the movie was roaming for almost four years and many actors rejected it before him. He said, “The writers brought the subject to me. I find it surprising that this script had been doing the rounds of the industry for over four years. It went to a lot of heroes, a lot of people but nobody picked it up. I liked it and I asked Neeraj Pandey with folded hands to give it to me. Earlier, the film was named ‘Sandaas Ek Prem Katha’ but later the title got changed.”

He further added, “This film is basically a love story. The toilet just forms the backdrop but the film is about the love story between Keshav and Jaya. It is based on a true story.” (Also Read: Akshay Kumar reveals he was a victim of child abuse)

Now, in a media interaction, the actor was quizzed as to why did some actors refuse to take up this subject or what could possibly be the reason behind it. Lending clarification on the subject, “I don’t know why they refused it but I liked the subject and I did it. So, I don’t know about what they felt. But, I know that it was roaming around in the industry for four years. It is a risky subject to just talk about toilet, a love story and a movie which is actually called ‘Sandaas – Ek Prem Katha’. But, I found it very intriguing and I like the fact that it was a real story. Things happen like this where a woman has actually said, ‘I’m not going to stay home, I actually want a divorce from you because you don’t have a toilet at home’. It’s a big step for someone from a village to take a step like this. Even someone from a city will think twice before taking a step like this. I found it amazing how the women did it and there is not one, there are about 4-5 women who have taken this step.”

The movie is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, produced by KriArj Entertainment and stars Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar in it. The movie is slated to release on August 11, 2017.
