Social media has become an abused platform for many who derive pleasure in trolling and shaming others for the silliest of reasons. And when you are a public figure, there are bound to be more followers, more haters too. So, as our celebs end up getting trolled on a daily basis for the silliest of reasons, newcomers Aadar Jain and Anya Singh who are all set to make their debut in YRF’s ‘Qaidi Band’ were asked about how they perceive social media trolling.
During a recent media interaction, they were asked that now that they have become celebrities, they too will have to face trolling at some point for voicing their opinions. Further, they were asked whether they will be open in voicing their opinions, or tread carefully. Anya Singh started off by saying, “I think not only when you are a celebrity are you trolled, I think no matter who you are in this country, if you say something, you get trolled. People get offended very easily. I’m just genuinely stating what I feel, I’m not trying to offend a certain section. But very honestly, I’m going to be very careful because without knowing me people have trolled me for the person I am, for the way I look.” (Also Read: Aadar and Anya talk about ‘Qaidi Band’ clashing with two other big movies)
She added, “Before the trailer came out, I got a lot of nasty comments about skin show. And, why put myself in a negative space, whoever I want to tell my opinion to, I will call them up and say, ‘Listen, I feel this way’. At least, they are not going to give me shit for the way I feel. But on social media platforms, I will be very careful at least as of now. Slowly slowly maybe when people start understanding me and the person I am and they understand that I’m actually just trying to put my opinion across maybe then.”
Aadar Jain spoke, “See, social media is new to me also. I feel that social media is a great platform to connect with your audience. You are a star today because of your audience. Because people pay money to watch your film so it’s a great way to give them back, show some love towards them. Also, they give you feedback on social media so if there is constructive criticism, then it’s great. Yes, there is a lot of trolling, you cannot stop that. People will judge you, will say a lot of things and initially it was very hard for me because I was not used to nepotism and all these things. But now of course I understand that no matter who I am and what I do, I will be trolled and it doesn’t matter. Because at the end of the day, I know who I am, I know my truth and it doesn’t matter what people think. I have a lot of time to change their opinions through my work, I’m here to be an actor because I love acting. Not here to only be on social media and post photos, that’s all temporary stuff to keep doing. But, my main job primarily is being an actor and I’m getting an opportunity to do that, so it’s great.”
Quite honest confessions. Talking about their movie ‘Qaidi Band’, it is written and directed by Habib Faisal, produced by Aditya Chopra and will be releasing on August 25, 2017.
