As per sources, jail superintendent Yogesh Desai had asked Hirani to supervise the play ‘Teemiratun…Tejakade’ (From darkness to light), that is going to be performed by the jail inmates. Sanjay Dutt who is serving his term there for his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts under the Arms Act was also a part of it.

Hirani a good friend of Dutt flew in from Delhi, where he is scheduled to shoot ‘PeeKay.’ with Aamir Khan. The star, all unshaven and broody, was surprised to see his old friend on Tuesday and became teary-eyed as Raju got in the director’s chair. For a good part of the next two hours, Hirani worked with the actors (jail inmates), often going up on the stage to correct postures and body language.
Sanjay Dutt will be performing a one act skit and two dance numbers and his song ‘Bande mein hai dum’ from Munnabhai too. The play deals with alcoholism and Gandhism.
