AR Rahman, who made the nation proud by winning an Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, is one of the most revered music composers in the country. His songs have stood the test of time and we cannot help but hum along to them.

While we all know about his achievements, very few know that AR Rahman had suicidal thoughts while growing up. Yes, in a recent interview, Rahman opened up about his mental health. “Up until 25, I used to think about suicide. Most of us feel they are not good enough. Because I lost my father, there was this void… There were so many things happening. (But) that in a way made me more fearless. Death is a permanent thing for everyone. Since everything created has an expiry date, so why be afraid of anything?,” he told PTI.

Indeed, celebrities like Rahman talking about mental health goes a long way in eliminating the stigma attached with it in our country. Along with Deepika Padukone, Rahman is an example of how people can not only survive mental health issues but also bounce back stronger.
