Can Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt be the next-gen Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol? Hell, yeah!

Alright… Our 90s was so beautiful and full of romance, thanks to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. There is no denying that Shah Rukh and Kajol made for one of the most charismatic couples on screen. What charm they had and with what ease they portrayed it. We all believe in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ moment today just because SRK and Kajol made it look so real. Whenever they came on screen, it was magical.

Butterflies in stomach and violins playing in the background, SRK and Kajol exposed us to the cinematic definition of love. Romance came naturally to them and the comfort they shared with each other was highly commendable. And well, even after all these years, this has not changed. In ‘Dilwale’ we once again witnessed the power of their romance. Honestly, so many fans of theirs were disheartened to know that they are not a real-life couple. ‘Baazigar’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhie Kushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘My Name Is Khan’ and so many other films, made us realise that ‘love’ sees no boundaries and that’s solely because of Shah Rukh and Kajol. But well, someone has to take forward this legacy, right? It’s difficult though, but how about Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan?

We know that no one can beat what Kajol and SRK had together on screen, but Varun and Alia sure seem to possess a similar kind of power, when they are on screen. They have done three films together so far and all three have been a hit, purely because of their chemistry. In ‘Student of the Year’ they were just debutants yet they seemed so comfortable with each other. ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ was said to be a tribute to ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and what a tribute it was. A simple love story was romanticised so beautifully by Varun and Alia. Their fans or as they call themselves as ‘Varias’ (Varun + Alia) are of a belief that Varun and Alia are just fabulous when they are together. They share a comfort level that does not come easily to everyone and so did SRK and Kajol and hence, they made for such a hit jodi. Unless and until you are comfortable with your co-star, it is difficult to have such chemistry and these two young stars have portrayed their strong bond every given time.

It is not that Varun and Alia have not romanced any other Bollywood star apart from each other on screen. Did it work? Was the romance as amazing as theirs? May be not! We sure remember the ‘Shaandaar’ debacle Alia had with Shahid Kapoor, while Varun’s chemistry with Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri in ‘Main Tera Hero’ was simply average. But then, we were treated to ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and it became one of the biggest hits of 2017, thanks to their impeccable chemistry. In short, we just cannot get enough of these two and same was the case with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. So would it be wrong to say that Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan make up for this generation’s Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan?

Coming from a fan who has dreamt of having a ‘DDLJ’ moment with a twist of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, hell yeah! Varun and Alia can sure take forward the legacy.
