Without being too preachy, Karan has very subtly yet impactfully touched upon several societal issues in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Whether it’s patriarchy, gender parity, body-shaming and of course, gender neutrality and reversal, the filmmaker has displayed them all flawlessly in his passion project.
There are some wonderful dialogues on equality and gender neutrality in the film by Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Chowdhury who play Alia Bhatt’s parents. Anjali Anand also speaks against body shaming in a strong emotional scene. In a powerful scene, Ranveer Singh also highlights how toxic cancel culture can actually be.

In what appears to be mindful, Karan and writers Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy make sure to highlight a variety of contemporary discourses. The filmmaker has also very wisely shown these disparities through an interconnection between two different Indian cultures.
