Jacqueline Fernandez

From getting lauded for her Sri Lankan aura to throwing some major fashion goals at the airport and also during her film’s promotional spree, Jacqueline Fernandez is sure-cut a gorgeous looking actress. Be it the movie promotions, or the movie itself, Jacqueline surpasses everyone with her sartorial choices and chirpy persona. Her smile, literally lights up the screen. But hey! Is that all that takes to be an actress? Certainly not. Though we have time and again loved the way she looks, what bothers us is the fact as to why can’t we see any remarkable and applaud-worthy performance from the actress, something different from her glam-doll image, something, which can make us sit up and notice the performer that she is.

If one notices, Jacqueline’s career graph also seems nothing of a challenging sorts. It all began when she started off her career as a super-hot fashion model, then was crowned as Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006, debuted in the tinsel town as Jasmine in ‘Aladdin’, did a masala (item) number in the first instalment of ‘Housefull’ franchise, co-starred in ‘Murder 2’ (just for the sex appeal), graduated to ‘Housefull 2’ and then ‘Race 2’ (with that spectacular infectious song ‘Lut Lag Gayee’) and followed with another item number in ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’. Year after year, she was just the same.

But one film which kind of changed many things for Jacqueline on the professional front was Salman Khan-starrer ‘Kick’. There is also one film which none of us want to remember, for a brilliant concept had gone horribly awry there; ‘Roy’. We can also mention ‘Brothers’ here. Though all these movies broke the monotony of her glamorous image, there was not much of potential to go on here, and even Jacqueline could not do much justice to it. Result, for good or bad, Jacqueline is back in her element, be it the recently released ‘A Gentleman’, or the upcoming ‘Judwaa 2’.

There is absolutely no denying the fact that Jacqueline surely is a lethal combination of good looks and diva aura, combined with a quirky personality. However, we would like to see her experimenting with her choice of roles, and break the sexist Bollywood rule of ‘good face + foreign nationality + hot bod = eye candy in movies’. We have an unhealthy fascination for fair skin, and that rules over actual talent, in the industry. Jacqueline’s movie choices and the fact that she is being picked like a hot cake by the filmmakers, just adds to fuel to this concept. She is striving and thriving, without having to tap the potential she may have.

Well, we would just like to say; Dear Jacky, play to your strengths, but don’t let your looks be your sole positive point in the movies. Take a cue from Katrina Kaif and start making a mark for yourself, or else you will be lost in the ocean of glam-dolls that come on screen, dance around the hero, and when it comes to actual screen time, vanish into thin air.
