Bhoomi, Newton, Haseena Parkar

Yesterday, three movies clashed at the box office, which include Sanjay Dutt’s comeback movie ‘Bhoomi’, Shraddha Kapoor-starrer ‘Haseena Parkar’ and Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Newton’. While the first two movies deal with a serious subject, the third one deals with a unique subject of election process. However, none of the movies managed to get a good opening at the box office.

Starting with Omung Kumar’s ‘Bhoomi’ which stars Sanjay Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles, it couldn’t even manage to cross the first day business of Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Simran’ which had released last week. ‘Simran’ had done a business of Rs 2.50 crore nett while ‘Bhoomi’ has raked in Rs 2 crore nett approximately. Sanjay Dutt’s star power and comeback couldn’t help rake in good numbers on the first day. The other release ‘Haseena Parkar’ which has Shraddha Kapoor essaying the character of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar fared even worse. The movie collected Rs 1.25 crore nett approximately on the first day. It couldn’t manage to cross the box office business of another underworld film which released recently, ‘Daddy’. Finally, talking about Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Newton’, the movie minted Rs 85 lakh approximately, but still it’s comparatively better as it only released in 300 odd screens. As this film has become India’s official entry to the Oscars, let’s hope it builds interest in the class audience at least, if not the masses.

Let’s wait to see how these movies fare over the weekend.
