Karan Johar’s romantic drama ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma has managed good numbers at the box office in its first week. The movie has earned Rs 78 crore nett in the first week and that makes this movie the fifth highest first week earner of 2016 after movies like ‘Sultan’, ‘Rustom’, ‘M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story’, ‘Housefull 3’ and ‘Airlift’. The film has earned well in the metros. The business in Lucknow is better than ‘Housefull 3’, just behind ‘Sultan’ and ‘Rustom’. They performed really well in Mumbai and Mysore. The holiday period helped the movie to a great extent.
Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ managed decent numbers in the first week, as the movie did a business of Rs 61.50 crore nett making it the eighth highest first week grosser of this year. Since ‘Shivaay’ was pitted against ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, the movie had a poor start at the ticket windows, but eventually picked up pace on Monday due to Diwali holidays. It may sound like a co-incidence but ‘Shivaay’ first week business is somewhat similar to earlier Devgn films like ‘Golmaal 3’, ‘Bol Bachchan’ and ‘Son Of Sardaar’.
The movie has performed really well in Mumbai, due to Diwali holidays. In fact, in regions of Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI and Bihar the movie scored more than ‘Ae Dil Hai Msuhkil’. The movie did a poor business in West Bengal and Mysore.
Overall, the two movies have managed good collections with ‘ADHM’ leading the race.
