‘Half Girlfriend’ takes the lead over ‘Hindi Medium’, on its first day

Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer ‘Half Girlfriend’ had a good start at the box office as the movie collected around Rs 10 crore nett. The movie has registered the fifth best opening of 2017 after ‘Baahubali 2’ (Hindi), ‘Raees’, ‘Jolly LL.B 2’ and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’. It had a good opening in the morning shows outside metro cities in places like Rajasthan, UP, CI.

The business is average in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, but it has performed very well in Jaipur, Surat, Patna and Lucknow. The movie’s budget is around Rs 50 crore which includes promotion and advertising, so the opening day business is relatively good.

If it does even better on the first weekend and holds well on Monday, then it could certainly qualify to be a hit.

The other release ‘Hindi Medium’ starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar in the lead roles did a poor business as it raked in around Rs 2.50 crore nett. The movie will need really strong numbers on weekend to sustain itself at the box office. But considering the fact that it’s a niche film and not mounted on a high budget, low numbers were expected.
