The second wave of Covid is creating havoc in the film industry. Due to the rising numbers of positive cases, the state government has increased the restrictions. With new rules being brought into action, the recently released films are facing the heat. Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga featuring John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi released yesterday and the film’s opening day collection is abysmal.

Mumbai Saga opened up to mixed reviews from the audience and critics alike. The gangster drama managed to earn Rs 2.82 crores approx on its opening day. Their day one collection is lower than Janhvi Kapoor’s Roohi’s opening day collection.

Sharing about the film’s day one collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted,#MumbaiSaga has a low Day 1, despite face-value + positive word of mouth… Biz affected by #Covid pandemic… More so in #Maharashtra, where the film was expected to perform best… Should witness an escalation in biz on Day 2 and 3… Fri ₹ 2.82 cr. #India biz (sic).”

Perhaps the film’s collection will witness growth on the weekend. But even that seems to be unlikely given that theatres have been ordered to operate with 50 per cent occupancy following the surge in Covid cases.
