Anushka Sharma’s ‘Phillauri‘ did an average business at the box office in the first week. The movie raked in Rs 20.25 crore nett and that’s not really a great number. The weekend numbers were not impressive and they further dropped on Monday. The Gudi Padwa holiday of Tuesday was little better and showed signs of hope. But, the numbers again fell by 25% on Wednesday considering it was a working day. (Also Read: ‘Phillauri’ movie review: A light-hearted, promising story that meets a cliched ending)
Certain multiplexes of Delhi and Punjab had registered good opening numbers due to Diljit Dosanjh’s starry presence. But, that was only on the opening day and the numbers did not really progress as expected over the first weekend. In East Punjab, the movie managed to rake in around Rs 5 crore nett, although it could have been much better. The movie which got 1000 plus screens, unfortunately did an even lower business than in East Punjab in biggest circuits like Mumbai and Delhi.
The first week collection of the movie is in a similar range of movies like ‘OK Jaanu’ and ‘Commando 2’, but the movie could have done a much better business.
On the other side, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ has become the second highest grosser of the year with a total business of Rs 109 crore nett in three weeks after Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’ that did a business of Rs 133.50 crore.
