Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda starrer ‘Sarbjit‘ has hit the big screens on Friday. Receiving a thumbs up from many B-Town celebs and critics for its heart-wrenching storyline and performances, unexpectedly the film has failed to deliver an equal impact on audiences registering a poor first-day opening.
According to Box Office India, this Omung Kumar directorial has managed to have an opening collection of Rs 3 crore nett. As the film’s premise is majorly set in the North region, it has helped it with better collections but not up to the mark. Mumbai city could only bring in very poor collections of around Rs 75 lakh nett whereas both Delhi city and East Punjab have managed to gross Rs 45 lakh each.
It is assumed that if the film jumps around 50% on Saturday and manage to collect Rs 4.50 crore nett, it will have a decent run till the next big release of Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Housefull 3’ arrives.
Considering this weak opening day collection, we assume the makers of ‘Sarbjit’ may find it difficult to recover the cost spent on the making. Let’s see if the movie picks up on its first weekend with the positive word-of-mouth publicity.
‘Sarbjit’ narrates the story of Indian convict Sarabjit Singh, who was falsely accused of terrorism and spying in Pakistan, following a jail sentence of 23 years and lastly beaten to death by his jail inmates. The film also stars Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal parts.
