The coming together of Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi on screen for the first time was the biggest selling point of Selfiee. The two promised a great chemistry through the trailer. However, Selfiee didn’t receive as much love on the box office on Day 1 as it had quite a dull opening.
Selfiee Day 1 box office collection
There was no other big release taking place simultaneously and last week’s releases, Shehzada and Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also performed underwhelmingly. Thus, Selfiee had quite a clear slate. However, the film didn’t seem to be the audience’s first choice. According to a report in Box Office India, Selfiee collected Rs 2.5 crore at the box office on Day 1. It is quite a low collection for any film with such a star cast.
Selfiee’s Day 1 marks one of the lowest openings for an Akshay Kumar film. The film is directed by Raj Mehta and it also marks his lowest opening day collection. His last two releases were Good Newwz and JugJugg Jeeyo, both of which performed well at the ticket counters.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan is still working well at the box office even in its 5th week. Whereas Selfiee now needs a huge growth over the weekend to cover lost ground. The Saturday collections will determine the flow of the film’s lifetime collection.
Selfiee review
The film also features Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty. Critically, the film has received some good reviews. Bollywood Bubble gave the film 3.5 stars out 5. A part of the review read, “It is a done-and-dusted movie and yet, Selfiee has a unique style and charm that can impress the audience. The one-word review for the movie would be entertaining.”
