Ranveer Singh must be on Cloud 9. After having a lavish wedding with Deepika Padukone, he received the Best Actor award for his role as Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmaavat’. Post that, his film ‘Simmba’ did exceedingly well at the box office and registered a bumper opening.
According to Box Office India, the film witnessed a solid 15% growth on Saturday and raked in Rs. 23.75 crore. It had raked in Rs. 20.50 crore on its opening day. This takes the film’s total to Rs. 44.25 crore. If this continues, the film will easily get into the Rs. 100 crore club.
In our review of the film, we wrote, “If you go and watch ‘Simmba’ and expect that you’ll watch something new, you’ll only have Ranveer’s somewhat funny antics (he’s just being himself for much of the first half) to take home. Unlike last week’s ‘Zero’, this movie steers clear of any experiment. It serves old wine in a new bottle though, and the execution is pitch perfect. Ranveer does serve you his unique style of acting early on, but he too settles into the same old groove of typical masala actors as the movie moves forward.”
The film was jointly produced by Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty, and is the story of a corrupt police officer who takes bribes. He has a change of heart when a woman (whom he considers a younger sister) gets raped and murdered by goons. On a mission to get justice, ‘Simmba’ leaves no stone unturned.
