Sohum Shah starrer Tumbbad’s Box Office success surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho, Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar with it’s re-release

However, it was Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad that truly stole the spotlight, emerging as a cinematic masterpiece that captivated audiences both old and new. Here’s a look at the successful re-releases of the year!

Kal Ho Naa Ho

 The romantic drama starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta was re-released in theatres on November 15. The film remains a timeless classic, and it’s no surprise that its re-release resonated with audiences. The film’s heartfelt story, stellar performances, and memorable soundtrack have a universal appeal that continues to capture hearts even decades later.

Rockstar

Rockstar, the 2011 Hindi-language film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, was re-released in theaters in India on May 17, 2024. The film’s songs and Ranbir Kapoor’s acting made it a massive success even after its re-release.

Karan Arjun

The classic Bollywood film Karan Arjun, originally released in 1995, was re-released on November 22, 2024, after 29 years. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, it stars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan as brothers Karan and Arjun. The re-release was a nostalgic celebration enhanced by remastered visuals and sound. It succeeded in drawing both older fans and a younger generation to theaters worldwide.

Laila Majnu

Laila Majnu was re-released in theaters on August 9, 2024. Directed by Sajid Ali and presented by Imtiaz Ali, the film stars Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri. It tells the tragic love story of Laila and Qais, whose romance is thwarted by familial conflicts, offering a poetic exploration of love and heartbreak. The re-release achieved significant success at the box office, a stark contrast to its underwhelming initial run in 2018. 

Tumbbad

In Tumbbad, Sohum Shah plays the lead role of Vinayak, who embarks on a treacherous journey to find a hidden treasure that holds the key to breaking the curse that plagues the village of Tumbbad. Shah’s performance was remarkable, capturing Vinayak’s internal transformation as he is consumed by ambition, greed, and the haunting guilt of his actions. Tumbbad surpassed its original box office collection during its re-release, it also outperformed other re-released films, making it a benchmark for unconventional Indian cinema. 

Tumbbad shined out in the race for re-release this year. The film initially struggled at the box office when it was released in 2018, failing to make a significant impact despite critical acclaim. Made on a budget of ₹5 crore, it had made just around ₹15 crore at the box office. Upon re-release, it added ₹38 crore to that number. Total, 53 cr. In comparison, Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar earned ₹10.50 crore, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho made ₹2.50 crore on its re-release.
