Thor: Love and Thunder opened in India on July 7, a day before its global release, and even after being a working Thursday, the film collected Rs 18.20 crore at the box office. After a dip on Friday, the film closed its first Saturday and Sunday with collections at par with the first day business, taking the extended first weekend collection to Rs 64.80 crore.

Thor faced the Hindi release Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2, featuring Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi on the box office but emerged as the clear fan-favourite. While the word of mouth for the film has been mixed, the Marvel reputation and the love for the franchise will see the collections soar. Rs 100 crore is well within reach for the film, and it remains to be seen how soon will the film touches that milestone.

There is no big Hollywood film that is releasing in near future, and the next week Hindi releases include Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra-starrer HIT: The First Case. The next big commercial venture hitting the screens will be Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt’s Shamshera that releases on July 22, so it gives a two week window for Thor: Love and Thunder to perform and expand its collections.

The film also sees the rise of the Mighty Thor aka Dr Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman, while Christian Bale plays the antagonist.
