Vidya Balan has made a smashing entry into our hearts with ‘Tumhari Sulu’, where she plays a character of a housewife who turns an RJ, adding wings to her dreams. The movie released yesterday, and has opened from mixed to positive reviews. And now, we have our hands on the first day collection of the same.
Given that very few women-centric movies make it far in Bollywood, it comes as no surprise that the first day collection of ‘Tumhari Sulu’ is low, despite a topic of a housewife making a career, which should resonate with the masses. It collected Rs 2.75 crore, which is quite low. However, let’s not judge the box office collection by first day only, as this collection is more than that of ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’. ‘Hindi Medium’ and ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, all of which turned out to be hits.
Anyway, ‘Tumhari Sulu’ has already recovered its budget through satellite rights, in-film branding and more. Thus, the collections are already a profit. Now how much profit can it incur, is to be seen. (Also Read: Tumhari Sulu movie review: All heart with added bouts of melodrama)
Maybe word of mouth will bring in more moolah for the Vidya Balan-starrer. Let’s wait and watch. The movie also stars Neha Dhupia and Manav Kaul in pivotal roles.
