Begum Jaan

Vidya Balan-starrer ‘Begum Jaan‘, which released yesterday, did a poor business at the box office. The movie earned Rs 3.50 crore nett in spite of it being a holiday. The movie was a solo release and it could have done much better considering the star power of Vidya Balan, but that isn’t the case. The first day collection is similar to the first day business of movies like ‘OK Jaanu’, ‘Phillauri’ and ‘Naam Shabana’, but none of these movies had a holiday on Friday. Well, one would have expected ‘Begum Jaan’ to do an average business because the promos and the trailer were not eye-catching for the massy audiences who prefer entertainment over serious drama. Well, if the first day business starts out with such numbers in spite of a holiday, we can’t expect good growth on Saturday and Sunday either.

The movie was mounted on a budget of Rs 19 crore which includes P & A, so the movie needed at least Rs 5 crore to start off on a good note.
