Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer Dream Girl 2 is all set to hit the theatres on 25 August 2023. The film is a sequel to a 2019 popular film. In the comic caper, Ayushmann Khurrana will be seen reprising the role of Pooja while Ananya Panday will essay his love interest. With the success of recently released films like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Gadar 2, and OMG 2, all eyes are on Dream Girl 2 as it is one of the anticipated franchises. Ahead of its release, let’s have a look at what trade experts have to say about the opening day collection of the film.
Dream Girl 2 Day 1 box office prediction
Talking about the advance booking and collection we can expect on the first day, Trade exhibitor Akshaye Rathi predicts, “The advance bookings are decent. But compared to the kind of advances that were made by Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Gadar 2, or even OMG 2, it’s a little less. But having said that, Dream Girl was one of Ayushmann Khurrana’s most successful films. The first one had a lot of traction, that had a lot of conversations around it. And that’s a benefit that Dream Girl 2 will have. That’s why I’m pretty sure of the fact that the momentum it’s carrying on the first one, it will generate an opening of Rs 6 or 7 crore, possibly. If the word of mouth, it’s good that when value is nice, it can even do more.”
While producer and film business expert Girish Johar opined, “I think the advances of Dream Girl 2 in the multiplexes and urban cities is good. Because in today’s day and age, there are no advances and films are not even standing on their own. So having some advances is a good sign for the film. We know box office is a very strong litmus test. If the public likes the film, the collections are good. But if the public don’t like the film, the collections fall the very day itself. Having said that, it has got a good awareness of the box office. I would be happy if the film opens up anywhere around Rs 8 to 10 crore mark. Because that will give it a form of footing to consolidate. It might have a good collection overall over the weekend if the audiences like it.”
Ayushmann Khurrama dream girl 2
Going by the predictions, if the film mints such an amount on the opening, then Dream Girl 2 may emerge as Ayushmann Khurrana’s third biggest opener after Dream Girl (2019) – 10.05 crores and Bala (2019) – 10.15 crores.
Will the successful run of Gadar 2 and OMG 2 hinder Dream Girl 2 at the box office?
Sharing his thoughts on the same, Akshaye Rathi said, “I don’t think so. I really believe that everything has its own tragically and its own audience. And I mean, if things could really affect each other’s business beyond a point, then Gadar and OMG 2 would have niggled into each other and these kinds of numbers would not have happened. Gadar is an absolute mass entertainer for a very single-screen, tier 2, tier 3 audience. Dream Girl 2 is more of an urban entertainer, a multiplexing film. So I don’t think any of these will affect each other beyond a point.”
Girish Johar stated, “It would be tough to have an onslaught of the Gadar wave. And it also has a direct competition with OMG 2 as well. Because OMG 2 is the same target audience for multiplexers, urban cities. “
