In a dramatic turn of events, a male prisoner, Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs for assault, and court documents reveal he intends to call Jennifer Lopez as a witness. The former couple, who dated from 1999 to 2001, have a long and complicated history, yet Lopez has remained silent regarding Combs’ recent arrest.

Prisoner sues Sean Diddy Combs for assault calls Jennifer Lopez as witness

Cardello-Smith claims that the alleged assault occurred in June 1997 at a Holiday Inn in Detroit. “I plan to call Jennifer Lynn Lopez, aka Jenny from the Block, to testify,” Cardello-Smith stated in his lawsuit. According to reports from In Touch Weekly, Cardello-Smith alleges that Combs invited him to a sex party. The rapper provided him with a drink that was tampered with. He claims he woke up to find Combs engaged in sexual activity with another woman, at which point Combs allegedly looked at him and said, “I did this to you too!”

Combs has vehemently denied the allegations, with his legal team declaring the claims as baseless. “We are confident that the truth will come out in court,” Combs’ lawyer stated.

JLo’s involvement in the case

Cardello-Smith’s rationale for involving Jennifer Lopez is based on her previous relationship with Sean Diddy Combs. He believes she may possess knowledge relevant to the case. However, he may face significant legal challenges due to the statute of limitations. “Because the assault allegedly occurred in June 1997, any claim [Cardello-Smith] might have had expired in June 2000 — more than two decades before he commenced this litigation,” Combs’ lawyer explained.

Cardello-Smith claims he delayed filing the lawsuit out of fear of retaliation from Combs. However, Combs’ legal team labelled this justification as “not plausible” and “makes little sense.”

The connection between Lopez and Combs may also be scrutinized in light of a 1999 nightclub shooting incident. They were both present. They fled the scene in a vehicle that was pursued by police, who found a stolen gun inside. Although charges were initially filed against them, those charges were later dropped.

New York attorney Pete Gleason commented on Lopez’s potential involvement. He said, “Jennifer Lopez’s presence the night of the shooting incident. And then departing in the same vehicle as Combs makes her a witness with firsthand knowledge and could subject her to being subpoenaed to testify under oath. If there are any criminal charges or civil claims not outside the statute of limitations, this would likely prove problematic for Lopez.”

Jlo hasn’t publicly addressed Combs arrest

Despite the unfolding legal drama, Jennifer Lopez has not publicly addressed Combs’ arrest. However, former staff member Thea de Sousa, who worked with Lopez on the 2002 film Maid in Manhattan, took to social media to defend her. “Jennifer does not deserve to be conflated with Combs’ crimes,” de Sousa asserted. “If you knew Jennifer Lopez, you would know she did not have any idea about Diddy. She barely drinks, she is not a partier, she isn’t a good time girl. She is a workaholic who uplifts women.”

As this case unfolds, the implications for Sean Diddy Combs and Jennifer Lopez could be significant, given their shared history and the serious allegations.
