Pratik Gandhi on his struggles in Bollywood

Talking about his struggles and learning the art he said, “It takes a lot of time, but this is all about practice. The more time you dedicate to practice, the better it gets. I believe that the more you do it, the more you refine it. This is something I can confidently say based on the experience I’ve gained over the years.”

He further continued, “The fun part is that once you get there, once you achieve it, you’re confident it will stay because it has come through genuine effort. For me, there was no elevator of success for me—no direct path from the first floor to the tenth. I climbed the stairs step by step. While climbing, there were moments when I thought, “Why do I have to do all this? I wish there were shortcuts, an easier route.” But when I reached the top, I realised it was good that I went through the entire process. Because now, even if I have to step down from the tenth step to the first, I know exactly what to do at every step.”

Pratik on catering to his audiences

“After Scam 1992, I was incredibly excited. The most thrilling part for me was finally being able to reach a larger audience. I’ve always thought about two sets of audiences in my mind. One is the actual audience that simply wants to watch, and the other is the makers—the writers and directors—whom, as an actor, I aim to reach.”

He further responded, “Even during my theatre days, and still today, I’ve always thought that if the writer or director imagines your face while writing or conceptualising a story, that’s where you want to be as an actor. It’s a beautiful goal. With this thought, I never wanted to constrain myself to only one type of performance or character. I wanted to have the kind of face where anyone could imagine me in any role. For this to happen, the responsibility is four times greater on me than on them. I need to give them enough reason to visualise me in any story, playing any character.”

Pratik Gandhi was recently seen in Agni, Dedh Bigha Zameen and Madgaon Express. The actor also discussed his roles in his past movies and the impact of all those characters in his real life. Pratik also discussed his relationship with his father and dedicated his acting journey to him.
