Ali Mercchant about his failures in life
Ali says, “Actually, what happens is, when you don’t have work, you want to try anything. Even if something is not meant for you, you still want to try because you have a family to take care of and a lot of responsibilities. So, I tried a couple of things. I opened a café and did one or two other things, but I failed miserably. However, it helped me realise where I should focus my energy. Then I started understanding that if you work, you need to dedicate at least a thousand hours to become good at it, then another three thousand hours to become better, and after five thousand hours, you settle into it. It’s all about giving as much time as you can. For example, now that my film is done, I’m all charged up. So now, I call people and go for auditions.”
About the time when he almost ran out of money
“There was a time when I sold my car and had no money left, then I had to shut down my café, and I didn’t know what to do next. There was a time when I had only around 40,000, 30,000, or 50,000 rupees at most. I would think, ‘Okay, this is all I have left, now what do I do?’ During that time, I was just learning DJing, getting into it, and understanding everything. When the struggle began and the shows started, I was so well-prepared that I recovered everything within just a year. But if I hadn’t believed in myself and put in the hard work, I wouldn’t have been able to recover. I wouldn’t have been able to return to a more stable life. “
“That was a very, very difficult time. At that time, you don’t know what to do and are ready to do anything. I wanted to be a little calmer, more focused, and more positive, thinking, ‘No, I think I will crack this.'”
