Bobby Deol has truly been in a reinventing phase in his career for the last few years. Be it his impressive stint in Aashram, his role in Class of 83 or the most recent Animal, the actor has been blowing away his audience’s minds. His last release has turned out to be a blockbuster. Animal is creating new box office records every day. And amid the success, Bobby got in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, talking about his stint with grey shade characters.
Bobby Deol on playing grey shade characters
When mentioned that his stint with antagonist characters has been working, Bobby agreed. Talking about it, he said, “I want to do something that is out of my comfort zone. Playing a grey character was never in my comfort zone, that’s why I am doing it. It’s a lot difficult to have 3 different villains that I have played till now in Aashram, Love Hostel and Animal. It’s always challenging.”
However, that has also led Bobby to be picky about the villainous characters he plays. He added, “So, now when people offer me films which are caricature antagonists, I don’t want to do them. I was offered one or two big films recently and I said no because I can’t do that. Not because it’s a big film I should do it. Why should I do it if I don’t like what I am going to be playing? So, I am only looking for characters which have substance, it doesn’t matter the length. I want to be on a set and enjoy being on that set and give my best.”
Bobby’s approach has been working wonders for him, and it reflects in the success of Animal. The film also stars Ranbir Kapoor, but Bobby has got immense praise for his negative portrayal in the film. He plays a mute villain Abrar in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. Animal has been shattering box office records, and by its 2nd Saturday, it crossed Rs 660 crores worldwide.
