Back in the 1990s, Anu Aggarwal set Bollywood abuzz with an unforgettable debut in Aashiqui. Her life took an unexpected and unfortunate turn with an accident that changed everything for her. In 1999, while driving back home from a party in Mumbai, 30-year-old Anu Aggarwal met with a serious car accident. She ended up with multiple bone fractures, landing in coma for 29 days. When she finally woke up, she had no memory of her past life.
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Anu shares how she healed herself and dealt with the tough phase of her life.
Anu Aggarwal on dealing with fatal accident
Talking about her accident, Anu recalls, “When that accident happened and I got injured, everyone felt bad. But that was my awakening. It made me realize that before that, I was asleep. I realized that what we think is the truth is not the truth. So, while I was in coma, I was on the other side of life. But all those things cannot be explained in words. We can only experience them. The biggest thing that happened was that I was laughing in coma. My laughter was not visible to people because I was paralyzed.”
She further added, “My whole body was paralyzed, so nothing moved in the body and face. But people did not know how much joy was inside me. When there is a deep injury and the body breaks, the connection with the soul happens. And when the soul connects, the real joy comes out, and it came out inside me. So, of course, it took time for the body to heal, and it was very challenging. Infact, doctors had given up completely and claimed I would lose my life in three years. So, I did a lot of self-healing. The journey was very long. My mind today is even younger than a 25-year-old. It has become that of a young person. I have no memory of my life before the accident. My life had completely changed and new beginning happened in 1999.”
On support from the industry
Talking about how film fraternity helped her, she recalls, “I was completely away from the world for years. I didn’t feel connected. But I would like to thank everyone from film fraternity as they have contributed to my recovery.”
