EXCLUSIVE: Anu Aggarwal reveals being paid more than Rahul Roy for Aashiqui; shares thoughts on pay disparity in industry today

The original Aashiqui girl will always be Anu Aggarwal. The actress made her debut with Mahesh Bhatt directorial and went on to become an overnight sensation before she met with an accident in 1999 which changed her life forever. Anu bid an untimely adieu to showbiz after that. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Anu Aggarwal recalls how she was paid more than co-star Rahul Roy as she shares her thoughts on pay disparity.

Anu Aggarwal on getting paid more than Rahul Roy for Aashiqui

For Aashiqui, Rahul Roy had received Rs 30000 as fees. When we asked the actress how much she was paid, she says, “I received in lakhs at that time. I don’t want to talk about it. But I was earning more than the boys from 1989, even before Aashiqui. I earned more than any male model. When Aashiqui came, I quoted some money. They said yes. Even though I quoted very little money as compared to what I did for modelling. But I was getting a lot of money in modeling.”

Anu shares how actresses today are talking about pay disparity but she never dealt with such issue. She shares, “Today’s actresses work for half the amount that male actors might get, or even less. This mentality is something I have been thinking about. Nowadays, so many girls talk about how boys get more, the gender difference and pay role issues. For me, these cases are gone. I never discussed this because I showed through my work that I deserve to earn more. Whatever I did was hit, whether it was modeling or whatever. I worked with dedication, and asked for money, and people gave it. I asked for a lot of money. From my first modeling job, I became the highest-paid model. I think a lot of girls and society today are raising these issues, but I had already conquered these before I left the films.”
