EXCLUSIVE: Asha Parekh shares a funny story on how she got ‘married’ to Shammi Kapoor; recalls wedding rumours upset his affair partner

Yesteryear beauty and veteran Asha Parekh becomes the new guest to arrive at The Invincibles season 2 show on Bollywood Bubble. The veteran actor gets into a candid conversation with host Arbaaz Khan where she recalled her childhood, bagging ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, working with Guru Dutt and many more. However, she even recalled the time when it was declared that Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh were married. Revealing the reason behind the wedding rumours, Asha ji says that it was a prank by Shammi ji but his partner was upset with the news.

Asha Parekh shares the story behind the marriage between her and Shammi Kapoor

She narrated the story, “Ye bohot lambi kahani hai. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar and pata nahi Om Prakash ji ko kya suja unhone kaha ki ye dono ki shaadi hogayi hai. Then there was a party at Naseer Hussain’s place aur uss waqt sab baatein kar rahe the and everybody started whispering. And then he said, ‘Yes, we are married’. Aur waha hamari Devyani ji baithi hui thi toh usne sunn liya that ‘you’re married’. And I didn’t know all this was happening. Aur Shammi ji ne kaha tum kuch mat kaho and I was like thik hai. He was playing a prank and my father left.

Asha Parekh reveals how it upset Shammi’s partner

“Sabne kaha ki wo chale gaye kyuki tumhari shaadi hui hai. Toh wo bole, ‘Nahi unki mother ko bohot shock laga hai, isliye wo abhi ghar gaye hai. But that time he was having an affair with somebody toh that person got very upset.“

(It’s a very long story. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar, and I don’t know what got into Om Prakash ji, but he said that the two of us were married. Then there was a party at Naseer Hussain’s place, and at that time, everyone was talking and started whispering. And then he said, ‘Yes, we are married.’ And our Devyani ji was sitting there, so she heard that ‘you’re married.’ And I didn’t know all this was happening. And Shammi ji said, you don’t say anything, and I was like, okay. He was playing a prank, and my father left. Everyone thought he left because we got married. So they said, ‘No, her mother got a big shock, that’s why he went home’. But at that time, he was having an affair with somebody, so that person got very upset.)

Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh have worked together in several films. It includes Teesri Manzil, Pagla Kahin Ka, Dil Deke Dekho and Jawan Mohabbat. At that time, Shammi was married to Geeta Bali in 1955 but she passed away in 1965​. Shammi remarried Neila Devi Gohil in 1969. On the other hand, Asha Parekh remained single.
