During Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi established herself as a courageous actress. She did not just put on weight for the movie, but she also romanticized it. She perfectly portrayed the message of how it is okay to not be within the boundaries of society’s beauty standards.

Now, we had a chance to have an exclusive conversation with Bhumi Pednekar on Bollywood Bubble. During the candid chat, Bhumi shared how people were shocked to accept that she was a leading actress in Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

Bhumi Pednekar shares how people reacted to her ‘not se ideal weight’

Ever since Bhumi Pednekar starred in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, she received appreciation for her role and her character. With the way Bhumi justified her role effortlessly is something commendable.

Now, while speaking with us about being body shamed, Bhumi recalled an incident from the days of Dum Laga Ke Haisha and how people had a shocking reaction towards her weight. Speaking about it, Bhumi says, “During Dum Laga Ke Haisha, when Ayushmann and I travelled, hum flight me hote the, toh log bolte the ‘Ayushmann, heroine kaun hai?’ aur Ayushmann sweetly meri taraf dekhta tha. People would be in shock, ke ye heroine hai! And that is why the film is so important to me.” (When Ayushmann and I used to travel in flights, people used to ask him ‘who is the heroine’ to which Ayushmann used to sweetly look at me. People would be in shock to accept that I am the heroine)

Further, she also spoke about being body shamed. Bhumi shared that she also has friends who are thin and they face their own biases. She added, “After Dum Laga Ke Haisha, people were like ‘kitni moti hai, ye thodi naa heroine hai’. Then when I lost weight and came out with my second film, they were still commenting on the way I look. And they comment on the way I look even today. So it really doesn’t matter.”

Well, there’s no doubt that Bhumi Pednekar gave a crucial yet very important message in Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The message is to love yourself regardless of being a certain size or a certain weight.
