Dalljiet Kaur participated in the dance reality show Nach Baliye in 2008 and became the winner with ex-husband Shalin Bhanot. In 2011 she played Anjali in Star Plus’ show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Dalljiet Kaur revealed being called a gold digger for receiving alimony from ex-husband Shalin Bhanot.
Dalljiet Kaur on being called GOLD-DIGGER
During the interview, Dalljiet Kaur spoke on the ramifications her son Jayden had to go through after her divorce from Shalin Bhanot. She said, “Yeah, it’s like the first time around he was very, obviously for a couple of months when stepped out of my previous marriage, probably it was easier, then it was tougher because physically I had given birth. So the whole postpartum thing this or that I don’t know when I was depressed. I didn’t have the time, I was working. I was 85 kgs and I dropped down to 56 kgs in 6 months because I had work to do. And I had to fetch, it took me 2 years until I was given some alimony and that’s not worth 1BHK in Mumbai.”
She added, “Let’s just put it like that because again people say, ‘Oh so much was given like gold digger’. So yeah I was rightly given a lot that could give me a mansion and take care of me and Jayden. No, it was not enough, but it was good enough for me to get my ego right. And say fine I got justice and I want to move that was enough.”
Dalljiet Kaur on managing work with son
During the same conversation, the Nach Baliye winner recalls balancing and managing work while raising a kid. She added, “But I have always worked, I have always managed and balanced. It has always been like one gone two here, two gone one here yeah. Whatever was given was such a shady thing to say. But no wasn’t worth all our lives taken care of. ‘I can sit and say arey I can chill, I have so much money lying around, no I’m sorry.’ I was staying on rent till the time I got married and I own it. Now what he went through then was probably a little easier from Jayden’s perspective.”
Kaur further added, “I always put up the biggest smile just like the Joker, you see how he smiles right? I have always been that joker in his life. I always smile brightly like you mean it, I’ll go cry in my car then I would come back and say Jayden let’s do this, let’s go out, you know we’ve got a party today. And I would do all of that and it would hurt my stomach because I don’t want to say it. After all, it’s coming out because the kid deserves that.”
Dalljiet Kaur opens up on her past
The actress spoke about being open about her past to Nikhil Patel. She said, “It helped him, it made him realise ‘Oh I have such a happy family’. And it wasn’t just for him I was also doing it for my parents if you ask me, they deserved it too. So every time I kept it to myself, and the best part is that this gentleman has some knowledge. I have spoken about what I am telling you it’s not rocket science, I have told this to him.”
Dalljiet continued, “I have said this is what I have been through, and this is what I have done. What we have been through is not again sympathy; it is a fact of my life. I have earned I have lost, I have this or that. But in that whole fiasco, I have safeguarded Jayden. But now when you walk in, you already know that she is broken. And you know she’s put glue everywhere and stuck it, it’s like you have come with a hammer crashing it so that it doesn’t even come back. Like I have a very human question, why would you do this?”
Dalljiet Kaur on being trolled
During the same conversation, Dalljiet Kaur spoke about the nameless and faceless trolls online who tagged her as a gold digger for her relationship with businessman Nikhil Patel. She said, “The funny thing is, I’ve been called a gold digger. The fun fact is, he’s an employee in a company that’s just 5 to 6 years old, earning a salary, living in a rented house, and his cars are on rent. He is a salaried person with two kids, and I was supposed to be the third. I would love to take that proudly and say, yes, I was a gold digger. The goal I was looking for was not material; it was to have kids and a family.”
