EXCLUSIVE: David Dhawan says Salman Khan is all ‘heart’ as he opens up doing 8 movies with him; reveals he was not keen on doing Partner

Like Govinda, director David Dhawan also has a great bond with superstar Salman Khan. This director-actor duo have worked together in 8 movies and all of them are just cult. During a candid conversation with Arbaaz Khan in the second season of The Invincibles show on Bollywood Bubble, David praised Salman, saying he was very sharp and understands everything. Moreover, he also said that Salman is all heart and is loved by his family.

People know after working with him, he understands everything. When he shoots, you don’t know how sharp he is. Even now, when I do a film, there’s a scene, I remember a scene with Salman, and I told him, ‘Yaar, this should be like this,’ you know, and it’s his scene. A lot of scenes are his.” Arbaaz said that he got Salman interested in his work, to which, Dhawan agreed to it as he kept working and he would see his style. The director said, “My family love him. I mean, he’s so close to Lali (wife – Karuna Dhawan), the kids, Varun (Dhawan) and all. I mean he’s all heart.“

David Dhawan reveals how Salman Khan was not keen on doing Partner

Partner starrer Salman Khan and Govinda together in the leads and fans loved their Jodi and their bromance. But there’s a story behind how Salman and Govinda came together. Narrating the story, Dhawan added, “You know how I got him into Partner at that time? Sohail came to me and I said, ‘Can we take, Govinda and Salman bhai (Salman Khan) together?’ He said, ‘Damn good’. He went to Salman and he wasn’t very keen (on doing the film). I told him, ‘Come on, let’s do it, it’ll be a big thing’ and he came, he shot the whole film wonderfully.“

Recalling the time, Arbaaz expressed gratitude for editing Dabangg for its length. He shared that David cut down the movie from 2 hours 43 mins to 2 hours 3 mins in 3 days. Khan said that his expertise was a big contribution to the success of the film despite not being associated with Dabangg. Moreover, Khan even shared Dhawan called the movie a blockbuster after editing. The Partner director said, “It was superb. What a film, what a character. The character was very interesting and strong.“
