The Govinda and David Dhawan movies have left us entertained for decades. From Raja Babu, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Hero No. 1 to Partner, the actor-director duo always used to create some magic onscreen with their humour. Now, he becomes the next guest to grace The Invincibles season 2 show on Bollywood Bubble where he spoke about working with Govinda while calling him the King of Improvisation.
David Dhawan talks about working with Govinda
Speaking about the same, the Coolie No. 1 director told the host, Arbaaz Khan about their working style. He said, “He (Govinda) was king in improvisation which helped me. We used to do it And the song was outstanding, it just came one after the other“. Arbaaz Khan asked about the special language between him and Govinda. He said, “What used to happen was, I would say, ‘This scene has been stretched’. He would say, ‘Do one thing, I’ll shoot the whole scene in one shot. One shot for four pages, whatever you feel is long here, cut it here, cut it there’. Then we shot the scene.”
David said he worked with Govinda for 17 films and said, “But I was the only one who handled him very well. (He had) too much respect and love (for us).” Arbaaz said that Govinda was known for arriving late on other film sets. When asked if he used to come late on his set too, the director revealed, “My work would get done.”
David Dhawan reveals how Salman Khan was not keen on doing Partner
Partner starrer Salman Khan and Govinda together in the leads and fans loved their Jodi and their bromance. But there’s a story behind how Salman and Govinda came together. Narrating the story, Dhawan added, “You know how I got him into Partner at that time? Sohail came to me and I said, ‘Can we take, Govinda and Salman bhai (Salman Khan) together?’ He said, ‘Damn good’. He went to Salman and he wasn’t very keen (on doing the film). I told him, ‘Come on, let’s do it, it’ll be a big thing’ and he came, he shot the whole film wonderfully.“

Partner also stars Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif as their love interest. The movie was declared a “Blockbuster” at the box office.
