EXCLUSIVE: Devi Sri Prasad reveals how Samantha Ruth Prabhu was locked for Pushpa song Oo Antava with Allu Arjun

Oo Antava song from Pushpa: The Rise became a blockbuster, all thanks to the sensuous music and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s hotness. The song became the rage and it was a party starter song. However, during a candid chat with Bollywood Bubble, the music composer Devi Sri Prasad revealed how the Oo Antava song came into existence and how Samantha was locked.

When asked about his reaction when Allu Arjun and Samantha came on board, DSP exclusively told us, “I was so damn happy. The funniest part was I created this song just 15 to 20 days before the release of the movie. The first song Dhako Dhako was released then Srivalli was released. The first song was a hit and Srivalli was rocking the charts and then Sami Sami was released. It was a massive hit and then Eyy Maga Idhu Nan Jagaa was released. Everything was rocking and I still didn’t make this song.”

DSP on how Oo Antava song was made

Devi said, “Sami Sami was already rocking and it’s a female song, it’s like full-on beats. Then I thought ‘Now, what will I do for an item song?’ Though it’s a mass romantic song that itself is like an item full of beats, I can’t do anything beyond that. Then I thought let me do the opposite of this. This is very energetic, shouting, screaming, dancing like that. I thought why should an item song always be like that? Why can’t it be very relaxed very chill, smooth and flowy? I thought let me make an item song like a chant and that’s how I figured out.”

He continued, “Then I made the whole song with only four notes like sa sa, re re, ga ga, ma ma. The whole song has the same tune in the first line then the cross, then the hook, everything. Then I was sending the tune to Sukumar Sir and I said ‘You all expecting an item song but you might listen to it and think ‘has this guy gone mad?’ because this doesn’t sound anywhere like an item song. I’m so confident about this song just trust me and put it in the movie. This is going to change the way item songs are going to be made, at least it’ll redefine’.

“He said, ‘Okay, I kind of sense that confidence in your voice, you did some magic. I think I’m already okay with the song. When I sent it, I got a call within half an hour from Sukumar sir and the producer said, ‘Man, what have you done? For the first 30 seconds, we were not able to figure out what the hell was happening. It was like starting slow and all then like snakes were all like dancing around this. I was like good, it worked out.”

DSP on how Samantha was locked for the Pushpa song

DSP continued, “Then we recorded and then this discussion was happening who’s going to be in the song? So, all the names all every actress that exists in India, all the names came up. But we had to shoot the song immediately but whose dates are free and all that? Then suddenly my producer called to ask how it be with Samantha (Ruth Prabhu). We were like ‘Oh yeah, she has never done’.

“Apparently, it happened that every big actress when they did their first item song, at least in the South, it was my song. They even put a list of all the actresses. They said if Samantha does it, it will be great but will she do it an item song? I said we are trying to figure it out and then it happened and they shot the song. The entire thing was magic. It happened within like 20 to 15 days. It is pure magic,” the National Award Winner told us.

Devi Sri Prasad bagged a National Award for the Best Music Director for Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise.
