Dia Mirza on maintaining Avyaan and Samaira’s privacy
On Mother’s Day, we asked Dia Mirza why unlike other star kids her kids are not in the limelight and papped much. The Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein actress shares, “I think baccho ko bacha hi rehna chahiye. Kabhi agar paps dekh lete hai humko toh mai rokti nahi. Otherwise, Samaira is particularly shy and doesn’t like being seen in the media. She does not enjoy and we respect that. Avyaan is too young to tell us whether he likes it or not. But I am not in favour of inviting the paparazzi if I am with my children. If they happen to be there, Avyaan and Samaira are respectful. They greet paps by saying Namaste or hello. And we go about doing what we have to.”

On believing in equality while raising Avyaan and Samaira
Talking about why she believes in equality and how she raises her kids, Dia avers, “In my case, there is a huge age gap between Samaira and Avyaan. My daughter is 15 and son is 3. Both are strong-willed and they do understand things. But there shouldn’t be inequality while raising them. We try and raise children with same attitude and approach whether it’s concerning their safety or doing household chores. And I take great pride in the fact that he sweeps the house, puts his shoes in place if needed. Both are even interested in cooking. The fact is that we want to create a gender-neutral world where there is equality and that starts at home.”
