EXCLUSIVE: Dunki box office prediction: Will Shah Rukh Khan starrer beat Jawan and Pathaan to become biggest opener of 2023? Trade experts predict

After ruling the box office throughout the year with Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan is now making headlines for his third release – Dunki. The movie marks King Khan’s first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani and it has been creating ripples ever since it was announced. From the first look poster to the teaser, trailer and even songs, everything about Dunki has been the talk of the town. The advance booking of Dunki commenced on 16th December and has minted over Rs 6 crores. Ahead of its release, Bollywood Bubble got in touch with some trade experts who predicted whether Dunki will have a box office opening bigger than Pathaan (57 crores) and Jawan (75 crores).

Dunki First Day Box Office Prediction

Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi believes Rajkumar Hirani’s movies grow with word of mouth and Dunki has the potential to become the highest grosser of Shah Rukh Khan. He said, “I am expecting an opening between 30 to 35 crores because it’s a working weekday and the movie is releasing with Salaar.”

He further explained, “If you look at the history of all Rajkumar Hirani films, they have always grown with word of mouth, and that’s exactly what I expect from Dunki. His imagination as a filmmaker is to put out storytelling that captures people’s imaginations and hearts. So even if Dunki doesn’t get an opening like Jawan or Pathaan, I’m sure in terms of its lifetime collections it will go on to become a huge grosser. And who knows it can potentially even go beyond the other two Shah Rukh Khan films that have come this year.“

While Producer and Film Business expert Girish Johar remarked, “The film is looking very exciting and it will be the family audiences which will be leading the way this time. I feel that Shah Rukh Khan has another winner on his hand and this will be his hat-trick. The film is opening on a Thursday and Thursday is a non-holiday. I think they are planning to release the film on Thursday so that they have an extended weekend ahead and word of mouth also will help the film to do better. So I think that 30-35 crore on day one would be a very good number for the film.“

He also emphasized that Dunki has the potential to enter the coveted 500 crore and 1000 crore clubs. “I’m sure with the kind of films Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh make, this is another 500 and probably 1000 crore film for us”.
