EXCLUSIVE: Ashish Gokhale recalls visiting Rohit Shetty on Khatron Ke Khiladi sets for Indian Police Force; reveals manifesting working with Ajay Devgn

Actor Dr Ashish Gokhale has showcased his acting talent with films such as 420 IPS, Bholaa and Shaitaan, as well as Rohit Shetty’s web series Indian Police Force. During an exclusive telephonic conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actor got candid about many things, including working with Ajay Devgn in several films. 

Ashish Gokhale also spoke about bagging Indian Police Force – co-starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Vivek Oberoi, wishing to work with Ajay Devgn in a Rohit Shetty cop universe project and lots more. Read on to know all he said. 

Ashish Gokhale on bagging Indian Police Force

Talking about how he landed playing a cop in Rohit Shetty’s police universe, Ashish said, “Indian Police Force… Covid ke pehle I was chasing Rohit Shetty sir. Unke office ke neeche jaata tha as I’m not from a Bollywood background – my parents are doctors. Main ek chote se village mein bada hua hu. I have write my own story; toh I used to go to every office, knock doors there. Main bahut saare directors ke office ke bahar khada hu, subey-subey night duty khatam karke. Main 8:30-9 baje unke office ke bahar hota tha ki woh kab ayenge.”

Ashish Gokhale continued, “I don’t want to take names, but 2-3 directors ko aise hi mila hu. Aisehi main Rohit Shetty sir ke office ke bahar jaake khada rehta tha. Bahut sare log mujhe kehte the ki, ‘woh zamana gaya. (Office ke bahar khada rehna) Shatrughan Sinha, Amitabh Bachchan ne kiya hai- woh zamana abhi nahi hai; you have to go to casting directors now. Casting directors ke yaha mera line laga hi tha.”

Ashish added, “So I was chasing Rohit sir. Waha ka security mera dost ban gaya. Waha ke chakkar kaate-kaate unke office mein chala gaya. Entry milgayyi mujhe, sir se hi-hello kiya, lekin tab tak Covid aa gaya. Jab Covid khatam ho raha tha, tab unka Khatron ke Khiladi shoot ho raha tha. Unke set pe gaya mein unse milne. 4-5 hours I was waiting for him. He met me. Post Covid ki third wave, tab Indian Police Force ki audition ke liye mujhe phone aa gaya tha. So I sent an associate director my video (audition tape) aur 3-4 mahine baad phone aa gaya mujhe.”

Ashish Gokhale continued, “November-December mein maine audition diya tha and February mein unka phone aa gaya tha ki Goa Police officer ka role. Rohit sir liked the audition and has cast you as the main Goa Police officer; will you be able to do it? We begin filming in May.  I said okay fine, but I was on cloud nine. I was like,’I got a part in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, and I got selected for a cop role’, that was a big thing for me. So this is how I got the role.”

Ashish on working with Ajay Devgn

When asked if destiny was at play to land him several projects with Ajay Devgn – Bholaa, Shaitaan and Raid 2, Ashish said, “I have manifested working with him. Humare hospital ke joh ICU hai, uska east side se Ajay sir ka office dhikhta hai (The ICU of the hospital I work at faced his office). I used to see him every time he was entering or leaving. I used to think ki kabhi toh inke saath kaam karne ka mauka milega (someday I want an opportunity to work with him). I’m a big fan of Ajay Devgn. I love his acting; the way he underplays, the way he shows aggression on screen – it’s another level.”

Ashish Gokhale continued, “I’m an actor. I really know how to perform. Toh Ajay sir ke saamne koi aisa role karna ho toh ek dhamdaar role ho. And that’s what I got in Shaitaan – I’m interrogating Ajay sir and R Madhavan sir and Jyothika ma’am. 11-minute ka scene hai woh. Whenever I used to work the night shift, I used to sit and look at his office. I used to imagine I would collaborate some there while working there.”

Working with ‘Singham’ Ajay Devgn

Revealing if he wished ‘Singham’ Ajay Devgn was part of the Indian Police Force, he said, “Jab mujhe yeh role offer hua, jab main agreement sign karne gaya Rohit Shetty ke office mein before the shoot, I asked the associate directors and writers – ‘Boss ki bhi entry hai kya?’ Main baar baar puch raha tha, shoot pe jaane ke baad bhi, ‘Sir ayenge kya?”Unki entry hai kya?’I used to ask, ‘Goa mein hai kya unko?’ as he is also Goa Police – Singham is the main Goa Police officer. And I got a chance to play Goa Police officer so I used to ask ki, ‘Unki entry ho jayegi kya?’ I asked this question so many times. “
