Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who is known for his work in Bengali as well as Hindi cinema, is currently gearing up for his OTT debut, with the web series Jubilee. Ahead of the release of Jubilee, the actor sat down with us for a candid conversation, with the team of the upcoming web series. During an exclusive interaction, Prosenjit Chatterjee was quizzed about the time when he rejected a role in Salman Khan starrer Maine Pyar Kiya.
Prosenjit Chatterjee on rejecting Maine Pyar Kiya
The Jubilee actor recalled the time when he rejected the Sooraj Barjatya directorial Maine Pyar Kiya. He also opened up about rejecting a role in the Salman Khan starrer.
When asked about the reason for rejecting Maine Pyar Kiya, Prosenjit Chatterjee told Bollywood Bubble, “Leave it. Forget it. Let’s talk about Jubilee.”
He added, “See, honestly speaking, I told you. My last Hindi film was Shanghai. And, as you know, from the last 10 to 12 years, I’m doing not those mainstream cinema. I have shifted to and I worked with all new educators.”
Opening up about accepting the role of Srikanth Roy in Jubilee, the actor continued, “I’m a huge fan of this man (Vikramaditya Motwane). First of all, he called me. And, I was like, okay. I never thought that he’s going to offer me a role like Srikanth Roy. So, and, it’s a debut for me on OTT. I’m a newcomer.”
Chatterjee added, “So like, I had enjoyed every bit, everyday. And honestly, speaking where we came. There was a huge gap of this, for this shoot and all, because of the pandemic. But, when finally we came for our workshop, so in these two years, I was living as Srikanth Roy, though we had a huge gap.“
Earlier, Prosenjit had mentioned how he was offered Saajan. However, the actor revealed how things didn’t work out in his favour.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya had shared that Salman Khan was not his first choice for Maine Pyar Kiya. The filmmaker had revealed that no actor wanted to work because the production house was suffering ‘financially’.
Speaking with Humans of Bombay, Barjatya said, “No actor wanted to work with us. And then 1 day, I met a young man who we’d rejected after his 1st screen test. But there was something about him. So, 5 months later, we got him on board. That man was Salman Khan.”
Talking about Jubilee, it is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and features Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Sidhant Gupta, Wamiqa Gabbi and Ram Kapoor. It is scheduled to premiere from April 7, onwards, on Amazon Prime Video.
