EXCLUSIVE: Jannat Zubair reflects on being labelled just a social media star: Sabko lagta hai maine kabhi acting ki hi nahi

Today, when you mention the name Jannat Zubair, most people refer to the social media star with over 47 million followers on Instagram. But many people tend to forget that she started her career as an actor, that too at a very young age.

She was just 9 years old when she appeared in the show Kashi as the young eponymous character. Then, she also appeared as the sister of Shraddha Kapoor in Luv Ka The End. The same year, she starred in one of her most successful show Phulwa. Jannat has a lot of other acting credits to her name, but she rarely gets acknowledged for that. In the recent episode of Bollywood Bubble podcast Let’s Talk, Jannat Zubair discussed the same.

Jannat is an actor first and then a social media celebrity. However, the actress insist that people feel that whatever she is, it’s just because of her Instagram. She shared, “Sabko ye lagne laga aur abhi bhi lagta hai ki maine toh kabhi acting kiya nahi, mujhe isi se fame mila hai. Toh ye particular cheez hit karti thi jab mujhe aise comments aate hai ‘yeh karti kya hai joh log usko itna follow karte hai, bus 15 sec ke vidoes hi toh banati hai.’ (Everyone started thinking, and they still do, that I’ve never acted, and I got famous from this. So, this particular thing hit me a lot, and I receive comments like, ‘What does she do that so many people follow her for, she just makes 15-second videos’).”

She added that those people don’t understand her journey to reach there. Jannat said, “Toh jab ye koi bolta tha toh mujhe hit hota tha ki aapko kya pata hai ki maine kya kiya hai. Aapko ye 15 sec dikh raha hai par mujhe pata hai ki maine, meri family ne yaha tak pochne ke liye kitna kuch kiya hai. Aur wo dikhne se pehele humne kitna kuch kiya wo apko nahi pata. So, it’s very easy to judge. (When someone said this, it used to hurt me because you don’t know what I’ve done. You see these 15 seconds, but I know how much my family and I have done to get here. So, it’s very easy to judge.)”

However, now the actress has learnt to deal with such scrutiny. Having been in the industry for 15 years, she knows how to handle situations. But when asked if acting has become easy for her after all this experience, she had the most humble reply. She said, “I’d not say it’s easy. I am still not very comfortable and I still get very nervous during action time. But I know how much I’ve grown as an actor. Yet I would never say that I have mastered this part. And I think I will never be able to do that. There is always a learning for an actor or for anybody in any field. You get to learn so much from everyone.”

While she doesn’t consider herself perfect, that doesn’t mean she lacks confidence in her skills. Jannat insisted, “Mujh mein itna confidence hai ki aap mujhe koi bhi role doge, kitni bhi badi line de doge, main wo kar lungi. (I have that much confidence that whatever role you give me, no matter how long a dialogue, I can do that). But that is my faith in my art, myself and my hard work. But I would never say that I am the best and I can play a part better than anyone. That I leave on everyone else to judge. “
